Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is the pastoral planning body for the parish and is responsible for the ongoing process of developing and renewing long and short range priorities for the pastoral ministry in the parish. Pastoral planning is a threefold task: investigating, considering and recommending conclusions. The council's first task is to investigate and study matters brought to its attention and shed light on them. Its second task is to reflect on them thoroughly, to discern through prayer their true nature and to evaluate. Its final task is to draw sound conclusions by the consensus process through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. [The concensus process is a method for decision making when all come to a common undestanding and agree to support the decision of the whole.] The council presents these conclusions to the pastor in the form of recommendations. If the pastor accepts the recommendation(s) of the council, he directs the implementation. Upon the pastor's request, council members may assist him, but strictly speaking, implementation is the responsibility of the pastor, not the council.
